Middletown, Conn./WTIC Radio - State police are stepping up traffic enforcement patrols for the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Troopers plan to zero in on the usual suspects: aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, speeders and those who appear to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Last year there were four fatalities on state roads during the Thanksgiving holiday break.

There were 444 crashes, 265 speeding tickets handed out and 41 were arrested on DUI charges.

Troopers say drivers can expect traditional and non-traditional enforcement methods--the latter of which usually means the use of unmarked police vehicles.

CSP commanding officer, interim Colonel Daniel Loughman, says they're also asking drivers to be that extra set of eyes on the roads for them and if they see an emergency or other driver potentially breaking the law, call 911.
