West Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - A Hartford man is facing charges after West Hartford police say he assaulted one of their officers who was investigating alleged multiple assaults by the suspect in a supermarket parking lot.
Police said it was just after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday the officer on scene was met by 39-year-old Samuel Rivas as he exited his cruiser in the Price Rite supermarket parking lot on New Britain Avenue.
In police body cam video, Rivas appears to take a swing at the officer.
A struggle ensues as the policeman attempts to handcuff Rivas, who ignores orders lie flat on the pavement.
Rivas was ultimately cuffed with assistance from a good Samaritan until additional police backup arrives.
Police say Rivas knocked an elderly woman to the ground who hit her head. She was treated for a laceration.
Later, police say Rivas admitted to taking PCP.
He's facing a slew of charges including assault on an elderly person, reckless endangerment, breach of peace and narcotics possesion, among others.
Bond was set at $250,000.
