Storrs, Conn./WTIC Radio - A UConn faculty member has been arrested, charged with larceny for allegedly using university and grant funds for her personal use.
Sherry Lynn Zane, 56, is charged.
The university states that Zane used the funds to pay for, among other things, travel expenses, transportation, and lodging.
The trips in question included those to Disney World and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In a statement, the university also says Zane was originally placed on leave November 15, 2024 and turned herself in to UConn police February 13.
UConn says its travel policy prohibits university funds from being used to pay personal expenses.
In addition, any travel expenses paid by the university "must meet the definitions of what is allowable under university policy and IRS rules."
It goes on to say that any reimbursable expenditures must be business related and supported by documentation.
“UConn takes its ethics and compliance responsibilities very seriously, and it is critical that we always hold ourselves and our workforce to the highest standards of accountability", said university President Radenka Maric.
Zane is free on a $10,000 bond and is due in court February 24.
