Cheshire, Conn./WTIC Radio - Two officers at the Cheshire Correctional Institution were injured on the job Friday.
AFSCME Local 387 says around 2:00 p.m., the two officers were assaulted during a cell inspection by an inmate.
The union says the inmate's contraband was discovered and confiscated.
It was at that point that the inmate became irate and attacked the officers, union officials said.
The inmate was wrestled to the ground.
The officers both sustained injuries to their arms and hands, and one officer suffered a neck injury.
In a statement, union President Sean Howard said “As we correctional staff continue to endure violent assaults and sustain at times life-threatening injuries, the legislature continues to sit on their hands and do nothing. Our union is repeating, once again, our calls for immediate action before lives are lost.”
