
NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Vice President Kamala Harris will be in New London next month to deliver the keynote address at the academy's 141st Commencement Exercises May 18.
In a statement, Academy superintendent Rear Admiral Bill Kelly says the they are "honored to host the vice president and look forward to having her present the Coast Guard's newest leaders with their commissions".
Typically, vice presidents address the graduating class of one of the service academies on a rotating basis.
Former Vice President Mike Pence was the last to address graduating cadets in 2018.
President Biden addressed the grads a year ago and in 2013 when he was vice president.
The Coast Guard Academy ceremony next month will mark Vice President Harris's first visit to the academy.
