(KFTK) – The former Director of Oval Office Operations has published a new book, Off the Record: My Dream Job at the White House, How I Lost It, and What I Learned, Madeleine Westerhout joined Randy to discuss her rise, and fall.
Westerhout was ousted from the job after making comments to reporters at a dinner following a day at the President's golf club in New Jersey.
"I was enjoying some cocktails, and in a very unguarded moment I accepted an invitation to an off the record dinner with four reporters and a White House collegue of mine," says Westerhout. "I pretty much never interacted with reporters before, because I know what can happen when you do, and saw no point to it. But, I don't even know what was going through my mind that day, I decided to have dinner with these guys and at that dinner I said some things that I should have never said, but more importantly I didn't mean. That information eventually got back to the Chief of Staff and the President, and they asked me to resign, which of course I did, right away."
Randy says a lot of people will relate to Westerhout's momentary lapse, and Westerhout agrees, but, "at the end of the day, I made a mistake and I take full responsibility for that. And like you said, I think a lot of people can relate to that, but my mistake just happened to play out on national and even international news."
Westerhout says there was a motive behind the reporters' actions, "it's because it had to do with this President. I think the mainstream media is looking for anything to hurt the President and his family. While I don't think the reporters cared about me at all, I do know they cared about hurting the President and that's exactly what they did by chronicling the actions of a girl who had a little too much to drink one night. I'm not sure how that became national news."
