The first half of McCoy’s career was in print: comic strips, kids books, greeting cards, magazine cartoon art, etc. He went on a seemingly unreal, movie-like journey when it came to working for Disney’s Michael Eisner:

“[Michael Eisner] flew into St. Louis [for an Anaheim Ducks game], and someone said…there’s a newspaper across the river, you should pop your head in.” So he did.

McCoy drew a caractacher of Eisner for his arrival, but stayed upstairs in his studio during the visit. When Eisner came upstairs to thank him, he asked ““Do you work for The New Yorker?” McCoy answered no, then was asked “Do you want to work for The New Yorker?” And the rest was history.

From there, McCoy’s career took off – from working on Ice Age to Despicable Me. To hear the full story, listen above!
