Angenette Levy: ‘Proving defamation as a public figure is incredibly difficult’

Law & Crime network anchor and host, Angenette Levy joins the Mark Reardon Show to discuss the defamation lawsuit filed against Amber Heard by Johnny Depp for 50 million dollars, and the subsequent counter suit by Heard for 100 million with the Mark Reardon Show.

“Proving defamation as a public figure is incredibly difficult. You have to prove that the person said what they said, and knew what they were saying was a lie, and that is was wrong. Johnny Depp has to prove that she did those things and lied, and that she did those things to hurt with what’s called ‘actual malice’,” Levy explained.

Later, she commented, “In Virginia, cameras aren’t typically allowed in the courtrooms. Johnny Depp wanted the cameras in the courtroom. He wanted this to be televised… The first question he was asked was, ‘Why are you here? Why are you doing this?’, and he said because this was not true, the truth is more important to him than anything, and he’s doing this for his children because his children went to school and basically shown copies of ‘People Magazine’ with pictures of Amber Heard with a black eye.”
