ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is set to appear for a disciplinary hearing that could result in the loss of her law license.
Gardner was the subject of an investigation by the Missouri Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel in 2019 over allegations of misconduct during her attempts to prosecute former Gov. Eric Greitens. She was officially assigned a hearing on Tuesday.
Gardner's name was included on a list of lawyers in Missouri who are facing hearings with Missouri's Chief Disciplinary Counsel. She will likely be called in front of a panel that will determine if any disciplinary action is needed.
In a 73 page document, the counsel accuses Gardner of concealing and misrepresenting sources of evidence and facts- including making several false statements in open court. The documents include allegations concerning notes taken by private investigator William Tisaby and whether Gardner provided all required evidence to Greitens' defense team.
The complaint will go before a disciplinary panel which could decide to send it to the Missouri Supreme Court, which could sanction Gardner up to and including disbarring her.
Gardner's office released a statement saying she acted in full accordance with the law, adding that multiple investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing:
“As the Circuit Attorney has repeatedly proven time after time, she has acted in full accordance with the law during the investigation into former Governor Greitens. Despite several investigations attempting to uncover illegal wrongdoing by her office in this case, none has ever been found. We are confident that a full review of the facts will show that the Circuit Attorney has not violated the ethical standards of the State of Missouri."
Attorney's representing Greitens filed complaints against Gardner's office after the 2018 criminal investigation into the former governor.
