KMOX's Ackerman: Mike Shannon 'has been part of my life; my entire life'

KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman started his weekly visit singing the praises of longtime St Louis Cardinals broadcaster Mike Shannon who worked his final game in the booth on Sunday at Busch Stadium.

"I'll be honest, a very bittersweet time for me," Ackerman tells Marc Cox. "He's been part of my life, my entire life. I'm 46-years old, all I knew turning on the radio during Cardinals season was Mike Shannon. To have him in my life since I was 22, it was a very emotional time yesterday. I'm happy for him in his retirement, I'm also sad to see him leave the airwaves."

Ackerman recalls his early dealings with Shannon, "I was 22, 23 covering the Cardinals in the clubhouse, and he treated me like I was an equal, and I was not even close," joked Ackerman. "But he introduced me to people like I was! And that gave me great, great confidence."

Ackerman shared more thoughts about Shannon on KMOX.com.

Shannon was feted in an emotional on-field pregame ceremony before the Cardinals hosted the Cubs.
