Purchasing a suppressor for a gun should be quicker now that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms streamlined the process. Ron McCain of The Range, St Louis West, explained that the firearm application form for suppressors was recently changed.
"The ATF introduced an electronic filing option," says McCain. In the past the wait had been 8-12 months, "but with this new e-filing, they're projecting that it could be cut down to 2-3 months."
Marc shared that he recently was purchasing a new hunting rifle, and he filled out a background check, and "lo and behold, to the shock of Ron and everyone else at The Range, I got denied! I got denied! When they ran the background check, of course, I'm freaking out! I'm like, what's going on here?!"
Marc said he reached out to the FBI, and they, "get back to me, fairly quickly, I'll give them credit for that. There's somebody with the same name in Indiana who's got a criminal record. Well, I've never lived there, [it] clearly wasn't me. You would think that just the Social Security number and other identifying information would separate me from that individual, but it didn't!"
"If you fail one of these background checks, it's completely on you to fix the bad information that's in the system, even though you're not the reason the bad information got in the system to begin with," says Cox.
