The St. Louis County administration building needs to be updated by 2027 to stay compliant with Clayton city codes.

The Clayton city code was changed in 2015 to mandate large commercial buildings be equipped with a fire suppression system but until now there has been no action taken to update the existing building.

St. Louis County Councilman Dennis Hancock (District 3) believes the lack of action over the years has led to an unnecessary ‘crisis’.

“Rather than do what needs to be done in order to become compliant, the County Executive has decided we need a new monument to government in Clayton,” says Hancock tells The Marc Cox Morning Show.

The current proposal by St. Louis County Executive Sam Page includes a new building that would cost $562 million.
