World Chess Hall of Fame in St. Louis accepts France’s challenge

Rex Sinquefield, Founder of the World Chess Hall of Fame, joins the Mark Reardon show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary 1972 Bobby Fisher-Boris Spassky World Chess Championship & a new rivalry with France.

When asked about France, who built  a chess piece 6” larger than the previous record holder in St. Louis at the World Chess Hall of Fame, Sinquefield said, “They built it, it’s about six inches higher than the chess piece we have. So we’re gonna start an arms race, they wanna mess around, we’ll join in. We’re gonna build one bigger.”

“It’s the 50th anniversary of the Fischer-Spassky World Chess Championship match, it was unbelievable! The world was glued to it… people don’t seem to recall that the Fischer-Spassky event was the most widely watched competitive event in the history of the world,” shared Sinquefield.
