CatVana campaign goes viral for adopting out cats like selling used cars

Cats and kittens are always up for adoption at animal shelters across the country. But one rescue in Atlanta has come up with a unique way to help find new homes for its felines.

Pippi's Place cat rescue recently launched its "CatVana" campaign, inspired by the online used-car dealer Carvana.

"If cats were advertised like cars online," the rescue wrote on Instagram, along with a listing of their latest models.

Those featured for adoption include:

• A "2014 Furrari" named Arlis, a domestic medium hair with "black exterior" and "custom white decal kit"
• A "2015 Furcedes" named Buddy, a domestic short model with "custom grey saddle kit" and "automatic two-speed (chill and zoom)"
• A "2022 Pursche" named Ashton, a dilute tortie with "four paw drive" and "sport agility package"
• A "2022 Meowzda" named Cassie, a tortie with "anti-slip tires" and "stealth package"
• A "2023 Mini Pooper" named Mr. Goodbar, a model compact with "power napping" and "treat detector"
• A "2022 Catillac" name Simon, a model blue with "green headlights" and "earplane mode"

All models are "CatVana Pur-tified" and "CATFAX Certified as 100% good boy/girl." Adoption fees -- ahem, "Fur-nancing Deals" -- range between $100 and $150.

Kayla Delcoure, who runs social media for Pippi's Place, said the idea was born out of a search for a new car.

"My inspiration for CatVana is humorously uneventful," Delcoure told NPR. "On Tuesday morning while I was brainstorming cute ways to display all nine of Pippi's Place's available cats in one post, my husband walked into my office to show me a truck listing."

"Different amusing descriptions kept popping up in my head, like the 'four-paw-drive', 'rear air vent', and the rest of them, so I went ahead and made the individual listings as well," Delcoure added.

The campaign has been a hit, with several models being taken home off the "lot," including Arlis who has a new home lined up in Canada. People have also been contacting the rescue asking how they can donate.

"Kindness and generosity knows no distance," the rescue wrote in an update on Instagram. "A kind soul in Europe discovered our CatVana campaign on Reddit and has offered to match all adoption fees for the nine CatVana kitties. The donor has asked to remain anonymous with hopes that his actions will inspire others."
