“Let’s be honest,” Reardon said. “We knew…that we were making big mistakes not letting the younger kids, in particular, go back to school. There was ample evidence by that point in the pandemic…If you’re a teacher and you bought into this, shame on you…If you’re embarrassed by your leadership, well then, I give you credit.”

Reardon says this learning loss is largely due to the fact that everyone seemed to “worship on the throne of Dr. Anthony Fauci” because there weren’t any alternative voices out there. He praises Dr. Martin Makary for sharing his criticisms about Dr. Fauci.

When the CDC’s guidelines called for school closures, Dr. Fauci agreed and advocated for it. Dr. Makary says this is why there’s “a generation of life-long learning loss” for children across the U.S.

“[Dr. Fauci] never really accepted the ten thousand fold difference between high risk older people and young healthy people,” Dr. Makary said. “He brought a lot of the same bias as HIV…There was no natural immunity with HIV, and he said everybody was at risk of HIV – they used that same strategy…

People just want an apology. They want to see humility…People are very forgiving if you are honest with them as a physician.”
