The Fox News Chief Political anchor and host of "Special Report with Bret Baier" has a new historical book on former US President Ulysses S Grant hitting the shelves.
"I'm kind of a history-nerd," Baier tells Marc Cox. "I just found this kind of invigorating, about kind of digging into the National Archives to find these nuggets that I think illuminate some things that may have been overlooked in history. This book is about Grant and his Presidency."
Baier says a lot has been written about Grant's military service, but "his most important role, really was to win the peace after the Civil War, and in particular make sure the process of reconstruction in the south was successful. And he throws everything at it, I mean, everything in his power."
Baier's book, To Rescue the Republic: Ulysses S. Grant, the Fragile Union, and the Crisis of 1876, is available now.
