A 41-year-old mother is dead after her teen daughter stabbed her during a disagreement in Detroit's University District on Thursday, police confirmed.
As reported by FOX2, the incident occurred on the front lawn of the family's home off Wildemore Ave. in the morning hours of Oct. 13. The two women were arguing when the fight escalated.
Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis said both women were armed with knives, a kitchen knife and an unidentified blade, when the 15-year-old daughter stabbed her mother in the neck and chest.
According to authorities, the victim's father arrived at the home during the attack and immediately rushed his daughter to the hospital, but the 41-year-old woman died of her injuries.
While her mother was taken to the hospital, the 15-year-old fled the home.
"She did leave the scene immediately following the incident however the family was very cooperative in having her surrender and then we were able to get her into the youth home," McGinnis said via FOX 2.

The teen also sustained minor injuries in the attack and may have been acting in self-defense, police said. It is unclear if the 15-year-old will face charges at this time.
"It could be a situation where there's mutual combativity... it'll be a tough case for the prosecutor to review."
The commander said neither the daughter or the mother had a history of mental illness and neither had a record of any criminal activity. The argument stemmed from a "typical" disagreement between a parent and their child, McGuinnis added.

"I have incredible sorrow for the entire family because you now have a daughter, a 15-year-old, whose been involved in the most traumatic event imaginable," McGinnis said. "...the healing this family is going to have to go through for years to come is going to be incredible."
The teen is currently being held at the juvenile detention facility in Detroit.
