When will Vice President Kamala Harris announce her running mate? Soon, sources say.
Vice President Kamala Harris will hold her first rally with her new vice-presidential nominee on Tuesday in Philadelphia with reports indicating the V.P. announcement could come as soon as Monday.
The location of the first stop suggests Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has moved to the top of a short list of running mates, and the Harris campaign has decided the state that Democrats won back from Republicans in 2020 is a must-win once again.
Meanwhile Shapiro canceled a fundraising trip to the Hamptons this weekend amid speculation he could be Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate in the 2024 general election.
A spokesperson for the Governor says "The Governor's trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee, His schedule has changed and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons.”
Other reported names on Harris’ shortlist include Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
According to reports, both Beshear and Walz have cancelled events for this weekend.
Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is also another name that could be on the shortlist.
A group of 50 progressive leaders from across the country sent a letter to Harris this week saying they support Beshear or Walz for vice president and have reservations about Shapiro.
“Governor Shapiro, although a valued member of the Democratic coalition, has made too many controversial policy decisions on issues such as school choice and the environment to be the consensus voice our nation needs right now,” the letter reads.
