Breaking records is nothing new for Taylor Swift, and now the pop star’s Eras Tour is set to smash another milestone, with forecasters predicting it will earn a record-setting $1 billion in sales.

The $1 billion mark has never been hit by a performer on tour, with Elton John’s farewell tour being the closest a musician has ever gotten, according to the Wall Street Journal. The total would include the gross revenue for tickets, merchandise, and sponsorships.

Billboard Boxscore, known for tracking concert tour data, hasn’t received nightly grosses from Swift’s tour, so the exact amount is still unclear. However, last December, the company estimated Swift’s initial tour, which had 52 tour dates, would gross $590 million.

Now, Swift has doubled the dates with concerts in Latin America, Asia, Australia, and Europe through 2024, bringing the total up to at least 106 for now.

According to Pollstar, the added concert dates will bring Swift’s gross revenue over the billion mark, as the concert data tracker estimates the Eras Tour will earn $1.4 billion.

Compared to other major earners, that would put Swift at number one and make her the first ever to eclipse the billion mark.

At the top of the all-time list is Elton John, whose Farwell Yellow Brick Road Tour has earned $853 million; Ed Sheeran, whose The ÷ Tour brought in $776 million; and U2, which earned $736 million on its U2 360° Tour.

Swift joining the other powerhouses at the top of the list is not unexpected, as the release of tickets for her tour in November 2022 not only crashed Ticketmaster’s website but also sparked controversy over resellers and ticket prices.

Ticketmaster shared that during the first day of ticket sales, the Eras Tour sold over 2.4 million tickets, the most ever sold by an artist in one day. Tickets also ranged from $50 to $899 when they were initially sold, but Axios reports that on the resale market, the cheapest seats were going for $1,000.

A recent survey from QuestionPro found that the average concert-goer expected to spend around $1,300 to attend the tour, including expenses other than tickets, like travel, hotels, clothing, and more.

Billboard reports that total spending on Swift’s tour in 2023 is expected to be around $5 billion.
