Best Buy has been the envy of the electronics world for some time. Recently though, some things have changed.
For years, Best Buy was making inroads against every other electronics store in the world. No one could compete with Best Buy's selection and prices, even Radio Shack. And while Radio Shack grew, with it's number of stores peaking in 1999, it simply could not keep up with the wealth and power created in the marketplace by the forces at Best Buy. Finally, though it tried it's hardest, Radio Shack declared bankruptcy in 2015, whilst still keeping a small presence in the country through independent stores.
It seemed that Best Buy had thoroughly crushed it's competition.
But then, after a questionable change in leadership, the new president of Best Buy decided to engage in negotiations with Radio Shack. Best Buy's board of directors was confused.
"Why are we negotiating with them? We do not need them for literally anything," one said.
"Let them be," another chimed in. "They are on the ropes."
The new president listened, but thought he might have a better strategy.
"Let's stock their shelves for them," he said.
"You are joking, right?" His senior advisor said. "Why would we do that?"
The president, glossed over in a vacant haze, then snapped to life. "Come on, man!"
Billions of dollars in merchandise was then sent from Best Buy to struggling Radio Shack stores across the nation. The agreement was that Radio Shack would give Best Buy a portion of all the profits. Best Buy sent it's Geek Squad in to help set up all the in-store displays, but without consulting anyone, the new president ordered all the supply trucks to leave suddenly.
"But our Geek Squad is still in the stores setting up their displays!" his advisors said.
The new president did not hear them, because he had fallen asleep in a cute position.
To this day, nobody knows how many geek squad members are still trapped inside Radio Shack. On Monday, the president gave a press conference vowing to "fight like hell" to get them out. He took full responsibility for the problem, but also said it wasn't a problem, and that it was all planned this way, and that he'd done a great job, although it was probably Amazon's fault.
Even a mostly cheerleading media has been scratching it's head in confusion.
While the trapped Geek Squad members are the new president's highest priority, he has acknowledged that he has given Radio Shack $83 billion in equipment including 162,000 radios, 16,000 night vision goggles, 33 Blackhawk helicopters, and 358,000 assault rifles. He assumes the Geek Squad will be fine though and said he will continue active negotiations with Radio Shack, "come hell or high water," or "until tomorrow, August 31st" whichever comes first.
