State senator believes illegal immigrants are settling in Illinois

In Illinois, there are facilities called Illinois Welcoming Centers. Though the details aren’t completely clear, Illinois Senator Terri Bryant believes they were created to help settle illegal immigrants in the state.

According to Sen. Bryant, Illinois is a sanctuary state, and Chicago is a sanctuary city. Most of these welcoming centers are in the Chicago area, however, Byrant knows of one in Fairview Heights.

“We think that about 2% of all immigrants coming to the United States are coming through Illinois, probably through the welcoming centers. That works out to be about 10,000 a month.”

Bryant states that the funding for these facilities was $1.499 million in 2018 and is scheduled to be $80 million in 2022.  This type of increase in funding raises a lot of questions.

“I’m happy to have these immigrants come, but I want them to come legally,” said Bryant.
