Texas takes center stage as the hot topic of abortion law polarizes the country after an anti-abortion law takes effect. Missouri State Representative Mary Elizabeth Coleman (District 97) recognizes the efforts made.
“I think they should be applauded for a pretty clever legal challenge to try and make sure we can save some babies’ lives in Texas,” says Coleman. “It was a pretty clever way to try and make sure that we can stop abortion in advance of the Mississippi case.”
So far, twelve Heartbeat Bills have passed, with another twelve facing challenges, both from Texas residents who are opposed to the bill, and also opinions from outside the state.
“The mainstream media has really misrepresented what the Texas law says and what it does and why the Supreme Court upheld it,” Coleman says.
Coleman says Missouri has taken a more traditional path to combat abortion, saying the state has the ability to enjoin abortion providers from providing abortions.
“We have taken drastic steps to protect the unborn in MO and I want to make sure that we’re taking every action possible,” Coleman says.
“We should be moving toward a society where abortion’s not just illegal, but unthinkable.”
Representative Coleman joins Marc Cox to go over the details of the legal battle.
