Former President Trump endorsed conservative Republican state Sen. Darren Bailey for Illinois governor Saturday during a Save America rally. The Annie Frey Show traveled to Mendon, Illinois to cover the event.
“Darren is just the man to take on and defeat one of the worst governors in America,” Trump said, referencing Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker.
Thousands of people gathered to attend the rally that was in support of Rep. Mary Miller who Trump endorsed in her primary against Rep. Rodney Davis. The former president called Miller a “warrior in our movement.”
Trump also used his platform to praise the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade, which protected the right to an abortion. He called the decision “a victory for the constitution, a victory for the rule of law, and above all, a victory for life.”
Members of The Annie Frey Show Brad Range and Hannah Gibbs praised Trump on how “personable” he was in his speech.
“At one part of the speech, [Trump] was talking about a police officer who had been killed, and he was talking about the police officer’s family,” Gibbs said. “He was not looking down, he was looking right out at the crowd. He named all members of the police officers family…he remembered their names, and he said the sweetest message.
I didn’t really know what to expect from Trump’s speech, but I left feeling like he hammered every single point, and I agreed with every single thing he said.”
