Illinois judge blocks school mask mandate; state to appeal

Metro-east attorney Tom Devore joined Marc Cox after a judge issued a temporary restraining order on school-district mask mandates in Illinois. Sangamon County Circuit Judge Raylene Grischow said Gov. J.B. Pritzker overstepped his legal authority with a classroom mask mandate.

"There's a general tendency of [people] to migrate to executive power," says Devore. "We gotta fight it every step of the way."

"The gamesmanship of Pritzker knows no bounds," says Devore as the state plans to appeal the restraining-order, "there is no such thing as an expedited appeal of a restraining order. That does not even make any sense. There is an appeal process for a restraining order that's set by our rules, and you follow it and it takes about 10-14 days depending on the appellate court's timing."

Devore expects a ruling from the court, "sometime mid, next week."

Listen to Annie Frey discuss the ruling with Marc Cox:

Devore tells Marc Cox that he's willing to keep up the fight, "I will represent any school district in the state of Illinois that went mask-optional, and wants to stay mask-optional for free, I won't charge them a penny!"
