"I support the Second Amendment," Ellisville Police Chief Steve Lewis quickly stated in his conversation with Marc Cox on the Marc Cox Morning Show, "the chiefs of police [in the Missouri Police Chiefs Association] are in line with our officers, and as a group, we are supportive of the Second Amendment. In fact, we've all taken an oath to support the Constitution of the United States, and the Second Amendment is part of that constitution."
However, Lewis says the current Second Amendment Preservation Act in Missouri needs to be clarified.
"SAPA as currently written, restricts us from assisting with the seizure of firearms with the federal law enforcement agents with the federal government. The problem is this; our officers are on federal task forces," explains Lewis.
"If we get a ruling that clarifies [SAPA] for us, game on, SAPA stays, we are fully supportive of that, from our perspective," says Lewis.
This week, the US Department of Justice filed suit against Missouri.
