"I'm ready to put 2020 behind us and jump into 2021," says State Rep Nick Schroer as he prepares for the upcoming legislative session in Jefferson City. Schroer joined Chris Arps to discuss bills he's already pre-filed.
The first bill on Schroer's plate is HB 496, one that would authorize tax credits for parents attending schools outside the district where they live.
"Now is definitely the time to have discussion on school-choice for a variety of reasons," says Schroer. "When you're still paying your property tax dollars [and] your tax dollars are going to schools that aren't in the best interest of your kids, whether that's in the Ferguson-Florissant district where I grew up or across the state. I think that its time to have the discussion, what are we doing with the education dollars?"
Schroer's bills also include: addressing payment to college athletes (HB 498); a "Bill of Rights" for law enforcement officers (HB 500); and carry-out of alcoholic beverages from restaurants (HB 559).
Schroer is also planning a trip to Jefferson City to submit another bill that would "de-fund" Planned Parenthood.
Missouri's legislative session convenes on January 6, 2021.
