When the Lions started this season, it was expected that Josh Johnson would be the backup to Matthew Stafford.
But Detroit went in a different direction and released Johnson to sign now-starting QB Jeff Driskel.
Now it appears the Lions have tried to sign Johnson once again, only to be blocked by the XFL, according to Adam Schefter.

November 25, 2019 The Lions could be without Stafford for the rest of this season as he deals with fractured bones in his back. He hasn't played since Detroit's Week 9 loss to the Raiders.
According to
ESPN, Johnson signed with the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL just last week: "Veteran NFL backup Josh Johnson was among three quarterbacks signed by the XFL on Friday ahead of a supplemental round to its inaugural draft, raising the total of league-distributed quarterbacks to 11.
"Johnson, who started three games for the Washington Redskins in 2018, will join the Los Angeles Wildcats. He also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- going 1-7 in eight career starts -- since he was drafted in 2008."
