Dreams have come true for “Star Wars” fans around the world.
After more than forty years since first seeing a lightsaber on the screen in “A New Hope,” followers of the blockbuster franchise now have a real-life retractable version of the iconic prop to salivate over.
On Tuesday, Disney dropped a first look at the luminescent gorgeousness in honor of Star Wars Day, aka May the 4th, aka May the Fourth Be With You.

In the 13-second video, a character dressed in the likeness of Rey can be seen setting off the lightsaber as a retractable beam of light emerges from the legendary weapon.
“Light. Darkness. A balance,” the voiceover says as the lightsaber launches and emits a purple glow against Rey’s face.
The clip ends with the notice that the lightsaber will be able to be seen in person once Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a new attraction coming to Disney World in Florida, opens in 2022.
“Star Wars: #GalacticStarcruiser at @WaltDisneyWorld Resort will take you to a galaxy far, far away starting in 2022 for an all-immersive, vacation experience,” wrote the official Disney Parks Twitter account. “What exactly does “all-immersive” mean? Well, here’s a little hint … #MayThe4thBeWithYou.”
Disney Parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro first revealed the creation of the lightsaber at a virtual event last month and exclaimed, “It’s real.” At the time, no photos or video were released of the Jedi iconography.
While the lightsaber isn’t available for purchase, it will be part of the two-day immersive experience attached to staying at the brand new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel.

The Galactic Starcruiser is located adjacent to the 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy Edge, which opened in 2019.
Disney has yet to release room rates or pricing information for the two-day experience. And while reservations are not yet available, “Star Wars'' fanatics can sign up to get the latest details as soon as they are released at starwarsgalacticstarcruiser.com.
