A unique sighting was captured off the coast of Newport beach Sunday.

About 40 false killer whales that swam and jumped alongside a Newport Coastal Adventure boat.

False killer whales are a species of oceanic dolphin. They are called false killer whales because they look like orcas -- all black about 20-feet long and weight on average 3,000 pounds.

The whale-watching company says it’s a rare sight because they normally stick to more tropical warmer waters.

Newport Coast Adventure says the last sighting of false killer whales off the coast was in 2019.
