The Detroit Tigers' iconic uniforms will come with a twist moving forward, starting with this weekend's series against the White Sox.
The club announced Thursday that as part of a multi-year partnership with Meijer, its home and road jerseys will feature a Meijer-branded patch on the sleeve. It marks the first time the Tigers have ever worn a sponsored jersey patch.
As part of the partnership, Meijer will also donate $100 to the Simply Give hunger relief program every time a Tigers pitcher records a strikeout, to help fight food insecurity in the Midwest.
Ilitch Sports + Entertainment exec Ryan Gustafson said the Tigers and Meijer are "synonymous with the state of Michigan, and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership."
“These are two of the most iconic brands in the state, creating millions of memories for fans and families each year," said Gustafson. "We appreciate Meijer’s support and partnership, and look forward to working together serving our great fans and customers for years to come."
