ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Did you know that John Gant is good at baseball? That fact was just about the biggest topic on Twitter, Monday night.
Gant, the 28-year-old right-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, has hardly been a topic of conversation this offseason. In fact, the only headline surrounding him would be the fact that he avoided an arbitration hearing with St. Louis by signing a one-year, $1.2 million deal in early December – which hardly had fans talking.
But now, people can't stop mentioning his name on Twitter. It even got his teammate Adam Wainwright attention:
Gant has been arguably the Cardinals most reliable relief pitcher of the last two seasons. He's 11-4 with a 3.43 ERA and 8.6 strikeout-per-nine rate. Plus, he's given up only four home runs in more than 80 innings since 2019.
Apparently, the secret finally got out that "John Gant is good at baseball."
That's what has been trending on Twitter since Monday night. And it appears to have been started by the account, @stl_nation.
And Cardinals Nation seemed obliged to help. Later that night, "John Gant" was indeed trending. You can go to Twitter and search "John Gant is good at baseball" for yourself, but here are some of the best tweets we've seen:
But they haven't all been positive...
