NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has announced that the NHL will resume playing with a 24 team playoff format, involving the top 12 teams in each conference.  Their regular season is officially complete, and the teams outside of the playoff teams will not resume playing.  Each conference's 12 teams will play in a Hub City.  Phase 2 of the league's return will begin with home facilities opening for voluntary, small-group training in early June.  A formal training camp will begin no earlier than July 1st, with a more specific date to be announced at a later time based on medical clearance. With this format, the NHL says they plan on crowning a true champion.
