Day one at the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines is in the books and Jon Rahm is in the driver's seat, shooting a ten under 62 to take a one shot lead over Justin Rose and Doug Gihm. C.T. Pan sits in fourth place, two behind the leader shooting a 64 today, followed by Jordan Spieth who sits in 5th place with a one day total of 65. Tiger Woods had an up and down day with five birdies and three bogies to finish 2 under par and 8 shots behind Rahm.
The weather was perfect for golf at Torrey Pines today without much wind. Golfers were very aggressive today going after pins due to all the rain San Diego had before the start of the tournament. This made for a day full of birdies for the field.
Rahm wasn't the only one with eagles on his scorecard. Justin Rose scored an eagle on his first hole and knew the conditions on day one were to his liking, saying "the first couple of days that we've been here in San Diego, it's been windy and cold and haven't actually - I didn't think the scoring was going to be that low. But when we got out here today, I felt really comfortable. I eagled my first hole of the day and I didn't look back."
Other notables on the day included Xander Schauffele, who played alongside Tiger Woods. Schaufflele was 3 under and currently sits seven off the pace, as is his playing partner Tony Finau, who was on the Jim Rome show on Wednesday.
Rory McIlroy shot a one under 71 for the day. Two local products Pat Perez and Charlie Hoffman both were even par on the day.
