Padres Outlast Giants 4-1. Start Season 2-0!

The San Diego Padres were able to improve to 2-0 on the 2019 season by defeating the San Francisco Giants 4-1 Friday night.

Padres got things started in the second inning after Eric Hosmer walked to lead off the inning. Fernando Tatis followed hit an absolute rocket to center field that was inches away from being his first Major League home run, but turned into a double nonetheless.

On the mound today for San Diego was Joey Lucchesi, who picked up where Eric Lauer left off yesterday. Not only did Lucchesi strikeout the first batter he faced today, he also pitched 5 1/3 inning strong not allowing a single run on three hits, only giving up two free passes and striking out seven Giants' hitters. Lucchesi's three hits allowed are his fewest since September 4, 2018 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lucchesi has now also issued 2 or fewer walks in each of his last 8 starts, as well as strikeout 6+ batters in each of his last 4 starts dating back to September 18, 2018 against the Giants.

San Diego would add to their lead with a solo shot by Ian Kinsler in the bottom of the third inning followed by a Franmil Reyes sacrifice fly that scored Wil Myers, who is off to a great 4-for-6 start to the season.
