The Texas Rangers were able to put up 11 runs today on the San Diego Padres after a huge 8-run third inning, as they defeat the Padres 11-3 on Sunday.

Chris Paddack started on the hill for the Padres and pitched well in his second outing of the spring. After Ranger's second baseman Rougned Odor doubled to center in the first inning, Paddack worked himself out of a one out jam with runners on first and third, keeping the Rangers off the board after the first inning.

In the second inning it was much of the same for Chris Paddack. He gave up a leadoff single to Jeff Mathis, then settled down to strike out two Rangers, including Shin-Soo Choo, to end the second inning. Through his first four innings of work in Spring Training, Paddack allowed 1 run (unearned), on 4 hits, and only 1 walk and with his pitch count being low was given a chance to pitch a third inning.

In the third inning, Paddack started off strong as he got Odor to fly out and Elvis Andrus to ground out to the catcher. He was one strike away from striking out Joey Gallo and ending his day with a 1-2-3 third inning, however, he lost Gallo on the next two pitches. Asdrubal Cabrera would single the very next at bat and Paddack's day was done due to the set pitch count he was on. T.J. Weir came on in relief for the Padres and that is where the Rangers scoring spree would commence. Weir allowed the two runners that Paddack was responsible for to score, then allowed an additional six runs of his own. The Rangers finished the inning with a crooked number “8” on the scoreboard and a lead that the Padres would never come close to catching up to.

When it was all said and done, the Rangers would win 11-3 in a pretty dominant performance and one that the Padres would not be able to emulate. It took the Padres twelve batters to get their first runner on the bases and thirteen batters to get their first hit of the afternoon, which came on a Franmil Reyes RBI double to right.

Chris Paddack finished the day pitching 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out three, and surrendering only one walk.

The Padres will be back at it tomorrow as they take on the Cleveland Indians from Peoria, Arizona. Joey Lucchesi will start on the mound at 12:10 p.m. at Peoria Sports Complex. Matt Strahm, Eric Yardley, Gerardo Reyes and Tyler Higgins are also scheduled to pitch.
