Seals win in Home Opener

I went down with my son in law to watch the San Diego Seals' home opener. I had never seen an indoor box lacrosse game and really didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to see the very high skill level of the players on both teams. The Seals were pitted against the Rochester Knighthawks, who were a finalist last season in the National Lacrosse League. The Seals drew an incredible crowd of 12,075. Hopefully it will springboard the franchise to a successful first season. The Seals pulled it out in the fourth period, and hung on for a 12-10 win. I am glad that I went and will look forward to going again.

Indoor Football Team

The San Diego Strikeforce continues to build their roster. Last week they hired former Charger Burt Grossman to be their head coach, and held a tryout last Saturday at Lincoln High School. The Strikeforce will open up Friday, February 22nd at Quad City, and will have their home opener Sunday, March 3rd at 5:05 pm at the Pechanga Arena against the Tucson Sugar Skulls.

Chargers have a winner in their Head Coach

I have watched Chargers 2nd year head coach Anthony Lynn very closely since he took over prior to the 2017 season. I gained so much respect for Lynn as his team came out of the blocks 0-4 in his first season. He never wavered in his belief that they would get it turned around. The Chargers finished the season with a 9-7 record and with a decent field goal kicker, would have probably made the playoffs. Lynn is a no nonsense coach who is a great communicator with his players, and they respect him and play hard for him. After Norv Turner and Mike McCoy and their lack of personality and creativity, this has been a bonanza for the organization.

Some things to think about when watching the NFC and AFC championship games this weekend and how important the quarterback position is and how good these four signal callers are:

Tom Brady (arguably the greatest of all time), Patrick Mahomes (probably the league's MVP this season), Drew Brees (all time passing yardage leader), and Jared Goff (2016 number 1 overall draft choice).

Have a great week and enjoy the championship games on Sunday. Coach Kentera
