Coach John Kentera’s Weekly Quick Hits
Expansion franchises always have a tough time on and off the field trying to build a fan base, and this will be a challenge for the San Diego Strike Force. Their home opener on Sunday, March 3rd did not go well on the field, dropping a 64-44 decision to the Tucson Sugar Skulls, another expansion team. The Sugar Skulls have several coaches and players with Indoor Football experience, and it showed in the Strike Force’s home opener. Off the field, the San Diego team has a ton of work to get done between now and their next home game on Sunday, March 24th against the Green Bay Blizzard. I really enjoy Indoor Football. It's exciting, very fast moving, and a fun time out for the family. I wish the Strike Force the very best, and hopefully they will be able to win on and off the field going forward.
Lebron James' first season in a Lakers uniform has had more downs than ups. After losing Monday night to the Clippers, the Lakers have fallen deeper in the Western Conference with a 30-34 record, and with the way they have been playing, there is no reason to think that they can make a playoff push. President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson and General Manager Rob Pelinka have their work cut out for them this coming offseason. There has been a lot of talk about Luke Walton remaining as the Lakers' coach. Luke is not the problem, and I'm not sure anyone out there right now really fits the Lakers. They shouldn’t just make a change to quiet down the disgruntled fans. Upgrade the roster with some game changing players. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will be free agents, and of course the New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis will be available in a trade possibility. Laker fans, there are better days ahead! Hang in there.
Travis Jankowski - suffered a broken left wrist last Sunday diving for a ball and will miss several weeks. Best wishes to Travis on a speedy recovery.
Have a great week. Coach Kentera
