Aristedes Aquino hit a pair of home runs, including a two-run shot in the bottom of the 13th inning, to give the Cincinnati Reds a 4-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday at Great American Ballpark.
Aquino’s two-out shot off Craig Stammen (2-2) with teammate Joey Votto at third base was the first hit by either team all day long with a runner in scoring position. The Reds had been 0-for-5 to that point; the Padres finished the day 0-for-8.
All of the scoring was accomplished on home runs. Trent Grisham hit his fourth of the year to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the first. Aquino tied the game off Garrett Richards in the second, and Mike Moustakas hit a solo shot in the fourth to put Cincinnati ahead, 2-1.
Brian Dozier tied it for San Diego in the seventh with his fifth home run of the year off Trevor Bauer. The bullpens took over from there, until Aquino’s winning blast which came just as the game was reaching the 4-hour, 30-minute mark.
