Following a two home-run game Saturday, Manny Machado added another blast Sunday helping kick-start the San Diego Padres towards their fifth-consecutive victory, an 8-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers that completed a three-game weekend sweep at Dodger Stadium.
Machado homered with a man aboard in the third inning to stake the Padres to a 2-0 lead. Los Angeles rallied off Cal Quantrill with three runs in the fourth, the first coming on Mookie Betts’ solo home run. The Padres answered back quickly in the fifth.
Ross Stripling walked a pair then gave up back-to-back RBI singles to Wil Myers and Francisco Mejia as San Diego regained the lead, 4-3. The Padres got solo home runs from Mejia and pinch-hitter Josh Naylor in the seventh inning to stretch their margin to 8-3.
Quantrill (2-1) got the win with six innings of four-hit pitching. Matt Strahm and Drew Pomeranz finished up for the Padres, who have won seven of their last nine to return to the .500 mark at 20-20 on the season.
