Profar Walk-Off Bomb in 11th Snaps Scoreless Duel, Lifts Padres

Jurickson Profar's first at-bat as a Padre was a memorable one. Batting with the bases empty and one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, Profar homered off Colorado's Carlos Estevez to snap a scoreless tie and give San Diego a 1-0 victory to even its season-opening series with the Rockies at a game apiece.

Profar had entered the game in the top of the inning as part of a double-switch, replacing second baseman Brian Dozier. His blast made a winner of the Padres' third pitcher Craig Stammen, who worked around Fernando Tatis’ second error of the game to pitch a scoreless top of the 11th.

The real pitching was done by the starters, Jon Gray of Colorado and Chris Paddack of San Diego. Gray went nine innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 12. He retired the final 16 batters he faced. Paddack was equally dominant over eight innings, allowing just four hits and whiffing 13. Neither starter issued a walk.

Paddack allowed just two base runners in an inning once, pitching around a Nolan Arenado double and Tatis' first error of the game in the seventh. Gray gave up a leadoff triple to Tatis in the bottom of the first, but stranded him at third and didn't allow another runner into scoring position.

Through the season's first two games, the Rockies and Padres have combined for just four runs and 18 hits (12 singles) while playing a pair of one-run, extra-inning games. Colorado has batted .110, while San Diego has hit .137.
