Bill Belichick spent Super Bowl weekend with one of the NFL’s greatest coaching flops at his favorite disgraced ex-president’s social club.
The Patriots’ head coach was photographed at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, alongside Urban Meyer, whom the Jaguars fired just 13 games into his disastrous tenure. Away from the sidelines, Belichick traded in his ripped hoodie for a loud sport coat and blue chinos.
He’s posing next to Linda Holliday, his longtime partner.
Belichick is a Mar-a-Lago member and seems to be a regular presence at the property. Last spring, he was pictured eating lunch outside on the patio while Trump sat inside.
There’s also a photo of Belichick and Holliday posing alongside Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election.
Interestingly enough, Belichick visited Mar-a-Lago on the same weekend that more information came to light about his longstanding friendship with Trump. An excerpt from one of the latest books chronicling Trump’s presidency was released Saturday. In it, Trump says Belichick “chickened out” when he declined to receive the medal of freedom in January 2021.
Belichick turned down the invitation in the immediate aftermath of Jan. 6.
But friends can’t stay mad at each other forever. Trump said Belichick “hugged and kissed” him on the golf course a couple of months after the snub.
The usually gruff Belichick appears to be quite affectionate around Trump. In 2015, Trump told the New York Times’ Mark Leibovich that Belichick hugged and kissed him when he was on the Patriots’ sideline before a game. “He said: ‘I love you. ‘You’re the greatest,’” Trump recalled.
Belichick wrote Trump a glowing endorsement letter days before the 2016 election, which Trump read aloud at a rally in New Hampshire. Belichick’s show of support caused some Patriots players to think about boycotting, Seth Wickersham reported in his tell-all book.
