Talk about going the extra mile. Never one to back down from a challenge, Donna Kelce, mother of NFL stars Jason and Travis Kelce, made it her mission to attend both her son’s playoff games Sunday. Donna began her day in Tampa, where Jason’s Eagles were playing Tom Brady and the Buccaneers at 1 PM ET. After the Eagles lost, 31-15, Mama Kelce hurried to Tampa International and caught a flight to Kansas City to see Travis play the Steelers in Sunday’s nightcap beginning at 8:15 ET.
Donna’s journey to Arrowhead wasn’t without obstacles. She had a miserable time leaving Tampa (getting to the airport from Raymond James Stadium took a rickshaw, an Uber and a taxi) and had her flight delayed 30 minutes. But through sheer will and determination, Donna arrived, albeit a couple quarters late, to cheer on Travis.
Now that’s commitment. Moms really will do anything for their kids. Donna will probably conk out as soon as she hits the pillow tonight, but watching Travis make history as the first tight end to record 100 yards in three straight playoff games was worth the trip. Kelce, who also threw for a touchdown in Kansas City’s 42-21 victory, has topped 100 yards receiving seven times in his postseason career, one shy of the NFL record held by 49ers legend Jerry Rice.
With the Eagles eliminated, Donna will only have to worry about one game next week with Travis and the Chiefs playing host to third-seeded Buffalo Sunday night at 6:30 PM ET. Kelce caught six passes for 57 yards and a touchdown when he faced the Bills in Week 5.
