As the Patriots continue their race to the bottom, could it really signal the end of Bill Bill Belichick’s days in New England?
According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, Belichick is one of several coaches who could be on the hot seat, but rather than being fired by the Patriots, he suggested a theory that could land the six-time Super Bowl winning head coach in Washington, D.C.
“I’m hearing chatter to this effect – not that it’s reporting – but when you’re in the NFL grapevine and you hear something like this it’s too good to keep to yourself,” Florio said. “There’s a theory out there that when the season ends, Josh Harris, the new owner of the Commanders, will call the Patriots and inquire what it would take to get Bill Belichick.
“So, the Patriots wouldn’t fire him. The Patirots would essentially trade him to Washington and avoid any further fincancial obligation, get something back for him…and so there’s a thought out there that this is how it’s going to go. …Bob Kraft does not say no to it because he, in theory, is ready to move on as well.”

Belichick, of course, has ties to the Maryland area as his father was a coach and scout from 1956-89.

“Josh Harris better be ready to give Bill Belichick an extended runway to turn it around,” Florio added. “…They better be sure they’re ready for his personality and for Belichick to take his time to get the Patriot way to work in Washington.”
