Louisiana State University is distancing itself from former star running back Derrius Guice.

The school on Friday announced it was banning the former gridiron standout from the athletics program indefinitely, and removing all mentions of him from the record books, multiple outlets reported.

The move comes in the wake of explosive revelations of systemic corruption within LSU football during and after the tenure of former head coach Les Miles.

Among those revelations, before the allegations of sexual misconduct that cost Miles his job at Kansas first surfaced, it was reported that Guice had twice been accused of sexual assault while at LSU in 2016, and that the school had apparently declined to investigate. One of the victims was reportedly the girlfriend of one of Guice's teammates.

The assault claims surfaced in the wake of Guice's release by the Washington Football Team, after his arrest for domestic assault in August 2020. Additionally, a Sports Illustrated reporter later claimed Guice had threatened her while she was working on a feature story about him in 2017.

The Miles scandal erupted months later, and he stepped down while reportedly preserving a lucrative severance. His boss, Kansas athletic director Jeff Long, also resigned, as did Oregon State president F. King Alexander, who was president at LSU during Miles' time there.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, Miles' successor who served under his as defensive coordinator, denied a report that he knew about the 2016 accusations against Guice and had downplayed the matter when questioned about it by the LSU player who was the boyfriend of one of the alleged victims.

Guice reeled off over 3,300 yards from scrimmage and 32 touchdowns in his decorated college career, averaging 6.6 yards per touch. He fell to the second round of the NFL Draft in 2018 over character concerns.
