Nets getting trolled on Twitter for their part in Celtics success

The Nets, having been swept by the Celtics in the first round of the postseason, are now watching Boston move to within one victory from reaching the NBA Finals, a place many assumed Brooklyn would cruise to in a full season with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden.

Instead, Brooklyn has become a troll target as the franchise that immensely helped the Celtics reach where they are now, on the cusp of competing for a title.

While Boston finished off a win over the Heat in a crucial game five to go up 3-2 in the Eastern Conference Finals, much of NBA Twitter was reminding the world of the pivotal part the Nets played in shaping the Celtics roster as it is right now, most notably the draft picks it sent to Boston which inevitably became two of the team’s biggest stars.

The infamous trade was the one that brought Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry to Brooklyn in 2013 for a load of first-round picks, which the Celtics would later turn into Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

Tatum has blossomed into a superstar, while Brown has become a key piece for Boston’s winning ways. Meanwhile, former Brooklyn assistant coach Ime Udoka is on the verge of reaching the Finals as the Celtics new head coach, and another former Brooklyn head coach in Kenny Atkinson, who was fired in 2020, is also one win away from the Finals as an assistant coach with the Warriors.

It all added up to plenty of trolling ammo on NBA Twitter:
