Titans rookie Brady Breeze suffered an ankle injury early in his preseason debut Friday night against the Falcons. But that brief cameo was enough to catch fans’ attention, many of whom were stunned to learn the existence of a player containing the names of two NFL greats—five-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady and New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees, whose 80,358 career passing yards are the most ever.

It’s doubtful the sixth-round safety out of Oregon (where he earned Rose Bowl Defensive MVP honors in 2020) was named after Brady, who was a college sophomore at the time of his birth. Still, it’s one heck of a coincidence and will surely follow Breeze throughout his career. Ironically, the 23-year-old's injury may prevent him from suiting up in next week’s preseason game at Tampa Bay, where Breeze could conceivably cross paths with Brady.

Friday was Breeze’s first game action in over a year after opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID. The Portland, Oregon native had impressed as a junior, totaling 62 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and three touchdown returns for the Pac-12 champion Ducks in 2019.

Friday also marked the Falcons’ first matchup with Tennessee since their Julio Jones trade earlier this offseason, though Jones, who has battled a leg injury throughout training camp, did not make the trip to Atlanta.
