Jalen Hurts’ rise last season propelled the Eagles to a Super Bowl. Nick Wright has his doubts that will happen again.

The raw talent for Hurts has never been up for debate. He’s a versatile athlete that can make things happen on the ground and in the air, and Philly’s offense was built perfectly for his skill set.

That resulted in Hurts finishing second in MVP voting last season. Now, there’s league-wide belief that he’s on his way to becoming (if he isn’t there already) one of the top quarterbacks in the game.

Appearing on the Audacy original podcast “1st & Pod,” the FOX Sports host took a more cautious position with Hurts.

“Are you guys thoroughly convinced that Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback?" Wright asked. "I’m not thoroughly convinced yet. The funny thing is, it’s not that I think he might just be like 'eh,' it’s that I’m not yet 100 percent convinced that he can come close to duplicating last year. If he can, they’ll be awesome again.”

Wright said he would take Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert ahead of Hurts, but not Dak Prescott or Tua Tagovailoa.

To Wright’s point, if the 2022 version of Hurts is, in fact, who he is, then the Eagles are going to be an NFC power yet again. But we’ve seen young quarterbacks regress after big years, and until Hurts strings together a consistent run of quality seasons, he’s going to face those types of doubts.
