In a matchup of undefeated teams in Mountain West Conference play, the No. 23 San Diego State Aztecs beat the Nevada Wolfpack 74-65 on Tuesday night at Viejas Arena.
The Aztecs improved to 4-0 in conference play and 13-3 overall, while Nevada dropped to 4-1 in MWC play and 14-4 overall. San Diego State is the lone undefeated team in MWC play and sits in first place atop the conference standings.
San Diego State shot 50% as a team and 38% (8-for-21) from three-point range. Matt Bradley recorded his first double-double as an Aztec with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lamont Butler scored 15 points and Keshad Johnson collected 11.
The Aztecs began the game on a 10-0 run, forcing Nevada to call a timeout with 16:35 remaining in the first half. Keshad Johnson had five of San Diego State's opening points, including a three-pointer. The Aztecs had a 12-3 lead at the game's first media timeout.
The Aztecs dominated in the first half, powered by solid defense and three-point shooting. San Diego State held Nevada to 35% shooting from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, while the Aztecs went 7-for-16 from beyond the arc. San Diego State led 44-27 at the half.
The Aztecs continued to control the game in the second half, opening up a 22-point lead with just more than nine minutes remaining. A late 12-0 run from Nevada in the closing minutes cut San Diego State's lead to nine points in the final minute. Nick Davidson led the Wolfpack with 17 points.
The Aztecs host New Mexico on Saturday evening. Opening tip is at 6 p.m.
