The San Diego Padres have officially announced the signing of left-handed reliever Yuki Matsui to a five-year contract.
Matsui began his career in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) at 18-years-old, and became the youngest player to ever reach the 200-save plateau. He collected 236 saves in 501 career appearances, while posting a 2.40 career ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 10 seasons. Matsui recorded 860 strikeouts in 659.2 innings, all as a member of the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
