It's only Jan. 23, but we may already have the best sports quote of 2022.
With Josh Allen having connected with Gabriel Davis for a fourth touchdown late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's AFC Divisional Round matchup, it appeared that the Buffalo Bills had slayed the Kansas City Chiefs and were headed to the AFC Championship Game.
But with 13 seconds left, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs got the ball back. Before they began an improbable march to a game-tying field goal, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a powerful message for his quarterback:
Mahomes preceded to connect with Tyreek Hill for 19 yards, and then Travis Kelce for 25 yards. That set up a game-tying field goal attempt for Harrison Butker, who drilled a 49-yarder to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Chiefs won the coin toss and marched 75 yards for a game-winning touchdown, with Mahomes once again connecting with Kelce in a pivotal moment.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Chiefs will host the AFC Championship Game. The Bills -- for the second time in as many seasons -- have been eliminated in the postseason by Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Reid's quote may very well be read back to him by Mahomes one day, when he's presiding over his coach's enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
